It seems like it’s everybody’s dream to have a home based business online. You can replace your current job or earn a little extra from the comfort of your own home, getting up whatever time you like, never wasting a cent or a minute on transportation, being your own boss and staying home with the family all of the time.
Most people start out thinking this way but these ‘negative goals’ are not enough of an incentive to make a success of your home based business. Wanting to avoid going out to work is not a positive goal. You have to be specifically aiming at the particular kind of home based business that you want to have, if you are to make a success of it. So you need to know exactly what it is that you want to do in your business.
There are many ways of making money online and a lot of them can ‘work’ in the sense that they can replace a person’s full-time job income. But can you make them work for you? Do they fit with your skills, aims and what you enjoy doing?
I get a lot of email asking questions that come down to ‘Will this work for me?’ It seems that people think that ebooks about making money online are like some kind of magic spell. ‘Will I make money if I buy your book?’ – well, not if you just buy it and don’t do anything else. Not even if you just read it and don’t do anything else. It’s like thinking you can cure a headache by buying a packet of painkillers and reading the instructions on the box. That’s not enough. You have to follow the instructions, not just read them!
The worst thing that you can do is keep trying different types of business, giving up and trying another. Any business will take some time and money to start getting into profit. Even if you don’t have to invest in stock because you are selling or promoting digital products, you will have some setup costs. You will need hosting, training, software and backup for your computer that you would not need if you were just using your computer for entertainment.
The best way to start an online business is first decide what you want to do and then follow that method until it is making a good profit, before you expand or switch to something else. This means doing some planning and research before you start. You need to be sure there is a market for whatever you want to do and that it will be worth the time that you will put into it. Time is very valuable in a home based business online – use it wisely!
