How To Avoid The Spam Folder

Wow…it looks like this is the first time I have posted this year, and summer’s almost over. Oops! Maybe if I give myself permission to write a very short blog post, that will help.

So here goes…

I had to laugh today. I received an email from GetResponse headed “How to avoid the spam folder”. And guess where it was?

Yes…in my spam folder.

I have two accounts right now, but I was thinking of closing one. I think I will be sticking with AWeber.

They mention one thing that is quite useful and not everybody knows about it. That is to check the domains that you are linking to at Blacklist Alert.

You need to check the domain of every link that is included in your email, and if you are using redirects to affiliate programs, also check the final destination URL. If any of them are on the blacklist, many email providers will automatically block your email.

This can be pretty serious. I had this happen to my main PLR site once and it was stopping customers from receiving their download links. I had to spend a lot of time re-sending download links and probably lost some customers too.

It turned out to be caused by another user of my shared hosting account who was spamming. Hostgator closed the spammer’s account and I had to apply for the IP to be cleared on the blacklisting sites. That takes time but it’s worth it.

  1. Thanks for the info.

That is too funny. I am with GetResponse and just signed up with Aweber. I will be closing the GetResponse account soon as I can. I, too, received the same email from GetResponse, but mine ended up in the inbox. But yours in the spam is funny!

    Take care,
    Donna
