How Not To Do Copy Cat Marketing
Let me ask you a question: which would you rather do?
(a) Go to a sun-drenched beach in La Jolla with Frank Kern
(b) Go to a McDonalds in some grey-skied city with Mike Filsaime
I think we know the answer, don’t we? Unless you have a serious burger habit or have something personal against Frank Kern.
Back in the spring you may remember there was a little launch for a product called Mass Control where Frank Kern gave away some very good information in a series of videos – one of which involved watching him get in his car and go to the beach – in return for your email.
If you signed up for those emails you may remember the subject line always started “it’s frank…” And then a couple of weeks later Mike Filsaime’s emails started arriving with subject line “it’s mike…”
So right now there’s a little launch on for a product called Traffic Fusion (in case you hadn’t noticed) and on the main page there’s a video where you watch – guess what – Mike Filsaime getting into his car and going to McDonalds. And then you’re supposed to give him your email to get access to 2 more videos.
But … McDonalds?
People, if you are tempted to copy someone else’s marketing tactics, please don’t make this mistake. Don’t do a WORSE copy
The really sad thing about this is that Mike Filsaime’s NEXT TWO VIDEOS ARE GREAT … but you’d never know.
The first time I visited, I burst out laughing and closed the page about 30 seconds into the first video. So I would never have watched the others at all if it weren’t for John Cow who wrote this morning saying not to even bother looking at the first video, just enter your details and click through. I’m passing that advice to you.
The second two videos really are a must-see for anyone who is selling their own product online, or plans to develop a product. You’ll see MF setting out a lot of different ways of using a kind of ‘stealth marketing’ which gets JV partners promoting your product – but NOT by sending out email to their lists. This way makes it a lot easier for them.
The videos are free and MF has released them to promote a product called Traffic Fusion which you’ll have to make up your own mind about. I won’t be buying it myself. But I did take a lot of notes from those two videos.
Oh, and I’m not saying this because I’m an affiliate. In fact I’m NOT an affiliate, I’m going to give you the naked link here:
Just don’t bother watching that first video. Wait for the link to view the next two. Unless you really have nothing better to do today than watch somebody driving to McDonalds …

There’s a comment on Filsaime’s blog from somebody saying “I’m a newbie … I’m overwhelmed … I bought Traffic Secrets 2 and haven’t read it yet but I’m sure it’s great … I’m sure Traffic Fusion must be great too” … don’t you just want to shake her? What could she do with Traffic Fusion? She doesn’t have a product to promote.
I appreciate your site because you do at least make it clear who could benefit from things and who wouldn’t. These 2 free videos you talk about are much more use to most of us than the paid product he’s pushing. Just wish more of these newbies had the sense to see it.
Hi Rosie,
One of the main cries I hear is for people to just do something to get their business going. I am. I have a couple of sites up and I’m working on another now.
I also have a full time job.
So, in order to get my business going, I have stopped watching all these promotional videos and buying courses with 18 hours (or whatever) of must have videos. As I’m serious about my IM business, I just don’t have the time.
I see courses like this for experienced IMers who IM full time. And, even then, those who will commit the time to doing the course properly.

Hi Barry
You are right – if only part time you have to be very selective about what you spend your time on.
These 2 free videos are about marketing your own products through JV partners. It might be worth bookmarking for later since I know you have your own products.
I don’t suggest buying anything here though. Somebody would have to be marketing their own products full time to even consider buying the Traffic Fusion software and even then it would be best to wait for reviews after it’s released – new software can be very disappointing.
